Karen Gomyo, violin

Take in the force and magnificence of Saint-Saëns’ Organ Symphony. The restless Dies Irae chant broods throughout the work until it dissolves into a calmer mood and then a stirring climax. This powerful work alternates between agitation and tranquility.

You’ll also hear technique, drama, tenderness and excitement in Saint-Saëns’ Third Violin Concerto performed by Canadian violinist Karen Gomyo. Gomyo won the 1997 Young Concert Artists International Auditions just one week after her fifteenth birthday. The following year she became the youngest artist ever to be presented in the Young Concert Artists Series in New York, in a critically-acclaimed debut as recipient of the Summis Auspiciis Prize. You’ll discover Gomyo’s ”big sound, excellent tone, rich lyricism and, above all, compelling authority.” (Houston Chronicle)
